Please join us in congratulating Mary Samuels, the Midwest Family Care Caregiver of the Month for November.
Around the office, Mary is described fondly as a “rock star,” and as a strong communicator who picks up extra shifts often. Her flexibility makes it easy to accommodate clients’ schedules.
Mary said she’s always been interested in healthcare. Her mother-in-law, who works for a home health care agency in Pennsylvania, encouraged Mary to become a caregiver because she knew Mary would be a great fit.
In the future, Mary plans to enroll in a physician assistant program, so working as a caregiver is great experience for a future career in care.
“This has been a great way to start caring for clients,” Mary said.
Mary’s advice for new and future caregivers: take the time to get to know clients and ask them questions about themselves. They love to get to know you, too, and this strengthens the bond between caregiver and client.
“I learn a little bit everyday from each of my clients,” Mary said. “I love hearing about their lives and experiences—they always have stories and good advice to share.”
Our care coordinators and our leadership team consistently hear good things about Mary. Her clients love working with her and consider her a valuable addition to their homes.
As Caregiver of the Month, Mary won a $25 Starbucks card and a Midwest Family Care travel mug.
Keep up the great work, Mary!
