For Caregiver of the Month Sara Clark, Caregiving is a Family Tradition
Congratulation to Midwest Family Care Caregiver of the Month: Sara Clark! Learn more about this outstanding caregiver in her own words:
My grandmother actually inspired me to become a caregiver. Growing up around her, she taught me how to care and to be compassionate towards others. When I was younger, I went to clients houses with her and helped assist with the things that I was able to, even if it was just cleaning. There were times she would tell me that some day, I would make a great CNA or a nurse.
After working as a direct support professional in a community-based residential facility (CBRF) for three years and being an in-home caregiver for a little over two years now, I really want to go to school for psychology. I’d like to help people by understanding the different types of illnesses many of our clients face daily.
My advice for future caregivers is to take time to listen and show compassion to clients. Each one has stories and life lessons to share. Many of our clients have been through so much in their lives. Our visits often mean the world to them!
Each of my clients impacts my life. Some get happy and excited when I arrive. There are also some that call me “My Sara.” It’s such an amazing feeling to know that I make a difference in their lives, and they do the same for me.
All around, caregiving is a rewarding job!
As caregiver of the month, Sara won a $25 Target Gift Card and a Bogi stainless steel water bottle.
